Coronavirus days
COVID-19 has now been with us for more than 8 months and continues to affect the entire world. After an initial lockdown stage with other severe restrictions, the world has been settling into a new norm of social distancing, masks and sanitizing until hopefully a vaccine or a cure will be found.

Throughout the Corona crisis, Elcam has continued to operate at full capacity while in compliance with the directives of the health authorities in the countries of operations. Elcam's primary objective was, and still is, to keep on providing our customers with the components and devices that are crucial for the care of patients around the world, while maintaining the health and welfare of our employees and their families.
We are happy to report that the steps taken by Elcam currently ensure no foreseeable disruption to our operation.

NEW! Safe2 Rotator™ Version 2
Safe2 Rotator™
Elcam's new and improved Safe2 Rotator™ spinning lock feature Version 2 in now available for sale.

Elcam Medical has developed the new version according to market requirements and as part of our continuous product improvement processes. The new device configuration includes several improvements that ensure an even safer and more robust product. All changes were evaluated to verify that there are no concerns regarding product safety and performance.

Elcam's Safe2 Rotator™ spinning lock feature, available in both stand-alone connector for tube bonding and stopcock configurations can provide a small yet significant contribution to the efforts of keeping medical teams and patients safe. It was designed to ensure secured connection along the entire treatment so critical to safe and effective IV therapy, which is even more critical in light of the current COVID-19 crisis (for example when longer extension tubing is used for pumps outside the patient room). The Safe2 Rotator™ and its 360o rotational flexibility can help prevent accidental disconnections, reduce tube kinks and twists in the tubing set, and facilitate convenient approach to injection and sampling ports.

DEHP-free DOTE-free
Elcam's Transducer Protector
Many of Elcam components that are manufactured in Italy are made from PVC plastic that may include substances which act as plasticizers and stabilizers. New European Regulation has brought the focus on the presence of CMR substances in medical devices. In particular, MDR restrictions affect products when DOTE or DEHP content is more than 0.1% in weight of the device.

Elcam is getting ready for the change:
Elcam’s goal is to reduce/eliminate DEHP and DOTE by using new raw materials to support customers in medical devices registration and to precede the trend to avoid toxic substances use.
Any part number ordered from Elcam that ends in “NDL” means that the product offers the benefit of having a DEHP content reduced below 0.1% w/w. Elcam currently has many of these options available for drip chambers, connectors, pillows, luers and other components.
Part numbers which end in “DOL” represent products that offer the benefit of having a DEHP/ DOTE content reduced below 0.1% w/w. Elcam already has several validated products including transducer protector, assembled drip chambers and drip chamber covers that can be found in our online catalog.
Elcam is currently molding and validating more components. Please inquire with your customer service representative.
New Logistic Center under construction
New Logistic Center in Dalton
Elcam is proud to report that the COVID-19 situation has not affected the plans for building our new warehouse in Israel adjacent to the existing Dalton Production Facility. The new warehouse area will be approximately 21,500 ft2 (2000 m2), 65 feet (20 m) high and will enable storage of 3200 pallets. This warehouse is scheduled to be operational by the first quarter of 2021 and is designed to store all the final goods manufactured in the Israel facilities, keep stock of raw materials and manage the distribution to all customers. The new logistics center will accommodate the growth of Elcam over the next 10 years.
Elcam's 50th Anniversary – Part 3 - the 21st century
The turn of the century was marked as a new and entrepreneurial decade for Elcam. New products and systems were developed, such as the first and only fully integrated pressure transducer and the entrance into the auto injector market space. Amir Halperin, former CEO 1997-2008 and current Chief Commercial officer explains: “Elcam aimed to be more than a stopcock manufacturer, to become a real medical device company. The development of the integrated transducer proved that Elcam can handle projects with much higher complexity level.” The entrepreneurial spirit was not only reflected by new products, but also by the establishment of Elcam Medical Inc. (EMI) in the United States, our first subsidiary outside of Israel and the opening of Elcam’s second manufacturing facility in Dalton. Elcam’s first mark on the second decade of the 21st century was characterized by pursuing a new path of growth by means of Mergers & Acquisitions. In 2010 Elcam acquired Lucomed, now Elcam Medical Italy, marking the beginning of Elcam becoming a leading brand in OEM medical disposable flow control devices. Ehud Raivitz, CEO 2008-2016 shares: “Lucomed’s acquisition was a major step in Elcam’s growth through synergistic companies. The main goal behind this acquisition was to keep providing our customers added value by broadening Elcam’s product lines and expanding our production facilities outside of Israel”. The second significant highlight of the decade was the 2015 establishment of E3D Elcam Drug Delivery Devices, Elcam’s sister company, that specializes in developing and manufacturing auto-injectors and other drug delivery devices for conventional drugs, biologic products and biosimilar drugs. Join us again in the December Newsletter to learn about Elcam’s plans for the future in the 4th and last part of this series.
Stay safe and healthy

Igal (Guli) Kohn, CEO and General Manager
